Case Study: Use a Web/CD Hybrid for Better Results

Stay Active Eat Healthy The Stay Active Eat Healthy project for the BC government's ActNow agency is the perfect example of when and how to use a CD/Web hybrid.

The Stay Active project wanted to get large amounts of information and resources out to communities throughout BC to help them start their own local Stay Active Eat Healthy campaign. That meant toolkits and explanatory videos with large file sizes — but many of the target communities still rely on dial-up Internet service that would be overwhelmed by big files.

At the same time, because it was a new project, there were many information changes, updates and additions, making a traditional, static CD environment dated before it even reached its audience.

The Hybrid was the perfect solution. We were able to package and distribute CDs containing the full package of resources files — large and small — that was navigable in a Web environment. And then when information was updated or created, it could be posted on the corresponding Web site. This meant that when communities used their CD in a computer that was hooked up to the Internet, they would have immediate access to all the big files (via the CD) and all the latest information. That's because through our Hybrid, the CD “talked” to the Web environment, found out what was new or updated, and presented that information. And all of it done seamlessly.
